Season Spoilers
It’s going to get ugly for Cristina and Owen, and just in time for Valentine’s Day! Rhimes took to her twitter to warn fans about just how bad things will get: “What is coming next will be difficult. And painful. And very very adult.” (Kristin eOnline 2/2)
Season Premiere: Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), Thursday, Sept. 23, 9 p.m.
Heigl tells E! News that she’s expressed to the producers that she like to come back to the show and she has some ideas about where Izzie is now, “My idea is that she actually, like, figures it out, and finds some success and does really well in a different hospital.” Imagine the tailspin that would send Alex in! (Kristin eOnline 1/19)
Owen clearly has some issues with Cristina’s decision to have an abortion earlier this season. Shonda Rhimes recently told reporters, “It felt like it wasn’t closed for Owen. It was closed for Cristina, but it wasn’t closed for Owen.” And as we saw the issue is wide open again, for the both of them! (Kristin eOnline 1/19)
Rhimes says Callie and Arizona will remain the show’s “stable couple,” adding, “We’re exploring Callie as a doctor, which has been really fun. To see her being a badass bone surgeon has been great. And Arizona is dealing with training Alex and what all that means.” Looking ahead to the show’s “really fun” Valentine’s-themed episode, Rhimes says Calzona “fight for some sexy alone time together.” (TVLine 1/17)
Shonda Rhimes already told Ausiello that the relationship of Owen and Cristina is about to be blown “up to holy hell,” but Owen and Cristina will seek the help of a professional in the near future. But while Rhimes confirms that the duo will start seeing a shrink, she adds, “It’s not in the way anybody thinks.” (TVLine 1/10)
Rhimes confirms that Derek’s sis will appear on Grey’s Anatomy for an episode. That same night, Derek and Lexie will pop into Private Practice. But don’t go throwing around the C-word. “It’s not going to be a crossover the way anyone thinks,” notes Rhimes. “Derek and Lexie are not going to Los Angeles for any reason. It’s more about a medical case.” (TVLine 1/10)
Little Sofia threatens to derail Callie’s big Valentine’s Day surprise for Arizona on Feb. 9, but it’s not the tyke’s fault; it’s Mark’s. Callie asks him to look after their daughter but he’s got plans of his own, so she tries to pawn babysitting duties off on the other docs. I’m guessing it all works out because the episode ends with Callie escorting a blindfolded Arizona to [spoiler]. (Source: TVLine 12/20)
Der and Mer are very much a part of the aforementioned V-Day episode. Let’s just say they are definitely in the mood. (Source: TVLine 12/20)
Things have been going well for Cristina and Owen. We get suspicious when the waters are too calm during November sweeps and Kevin McKidd tells us the drama we’ve been experiencing pales in comparison to what’s coming up: “People better watch out. It’s been quite sedate up to this point.” In next week’s Grey’s Anatomy Teddy puts her husband’s life in the hands of her peers when Henry (Scott Foley) is sent to the OR for surgery and she’s called away on another case. Non-doctor love interests never end well on this show. (Kristin eonline)
What’s going to happen to poor Teddy? Well, when I spoke with Kim Raver, she weighed in on what’s next. “It’s like the time-bomb waiting to explode,” she says. “I know that she doesn’t just dissolve into a puddle on the floor. It’s not that kind of grieving. I know she will go into ‘Let me try to fix it’ mode. But we don’t know how long that will hold.”Moreover, she said, when the show returns from hiatus, the dynamic between Cristina, Owen and Teddy will be unlike any we’ve seen between them before. “To have the three of them interacting is going to be very interesting to watch and to see the outcome from this devastating event. The impact of it [is great].” (Source: InsideTV.ew)
Teddy finds herself having to abandon her husband to go save a life after a terrible mistake is made by a fellow doctor during surgery. (A mistake we bet will come back to haunt a doctor or two, we predict.) “When she’s called down to take care of the patient, her first reaction is that she wants to give the case to someone else because she wants to be in there with her husband,” says Raver. But she can’t. As the only option, Teddy has to switch into doctor mode. But, she teases, everything will not go as smoothly as planned. “I think she’s nervous, and she’s doesn’t know when she walks into the OR that she’s going to leave and be a completely different person.” (Source: InsideTV.ew 11/11)
Nia Vardalos and Peri Gilpin will guest-star as bickering sisters on an upcoming episode of Grey’s Anatomy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pair’s episode is schedule to air mid-January. (Source: Tvline 11/18)
Diane Farr will guest in an October episode of Grey’s Anatomy as a patient with Huntington’s disease—the same ailment that Olivia Wilde’s Thirteen is living with on House. Farr’s character will be under the care of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and is slated to appear in this season’s fourth episode. (Ausiello)
Grey’s boss Shonda Rhimes tells me that finding closure for Alex is one of her top priorities as she heads into season 7. “We’re talking about it [in the writers' room] obsessively and trying to figure it out,” she says. “We’re approaching it pretty carefully. One thing Rhimes can say for certain is that the story line will not take “the expected form.” (Ausiello)
The returning Cougar Town actor is headed back to Grey’s Anatomy for a multi-episode November sweeps arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. Ryan Devlin will reappear in this season’s sixth and seventh episodes (slated to air on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4). Mandy Moore is also making tracks back to Seattle Grace, although it’s unclear whether she’ll be in one or two episodes. (Ausiello)
Raver can be seen again scrubbing in as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s Teddy, who – hear the chorus of angels sing – is done dogging fellow war vet Owen (played by Kevin McKidd) and instead en route to a new romance, with a grief counselor being played by James Tupper (’Men In Trees’). After all, as Raver notes of Tupper’s casting on ‘Grey’s,’ “If they’re handsome and hot, there’s going to be some action happening!” (Fancast Blogs)
Grey’s Anatomy premiere: A major character will be sent directly to jail by the end of the episode. (Ausiello)
Exec producer Shonda Rhimes reveals a nuptials taking place on the Sept. 23 season premiere. Although Rhimes prefers to keep the identities of the Grey’s bride and groom hush-hush. (Ausiello)
New:
So Owen may or may not be cheating, but more importantly, his relationship with Cristina is so severely fractured, even Ellen Pompeo “could very easily see him walking away.” We’d guess that only a near-death catastrophe that puts everything into perspective could get these two back on track. (Source: kristin eoline 2/23)
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey): “You will see the dream house before the end of the season,” Shonda Rhimes says. “Although, we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the season and now I’m not totally 100 percent sure how the season’s going to end because contract negotiations haven’t been finished. So I will say I’m planning on it and I am hopeful we’re going to see the dream house before the end of the season.” (kristin eonline 3/15)
Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd): “It’s going to get darker, people! It’s going to get darker before it gets better,” Shonda reveals. “Cristina has gone through tremendous personal growth,” Shonda explains. “For me, I was really interested in exploring [how] Cristina is, first and foremost before she’s anything else, a surgeon and she’s a person of gift. When that happens in men, everyone accepts it. When it happens in women, it’s a very different thing. I was really interested in exploring that with that character because there’s something really wonderful about this idea of this extraordinarily talented, gifted woman who is unapologetic about her desire not to have children and to have things sort of go her way and what that means when you’re in a relationship. It’s very complex.” (kristin eonline 3/15)
Jordan Belfi has landed a two-episode guest spot on Grey’s Anatomy, TVLine reports. Belfi will play Ryan, a self-deprecating and adventurous patient. He is set to appear the May 3 and May 10 episodes. (TVGuide 3/29)
Bailey’s baby is missing! While Bailey has taken a backseat in the past few weeks, it looks like Chandra Wilson will get a chance to flex her dramatic-acting muscles next week. (Kristin eonline 4/12)
“Julia asks Mark to start a family with her,” this certainly sounds like bad news for the May 3 episode. (Kristin eonline 4/17)
Cristina (Sandra Oh) is back. She might be in the worst place ever with Owen after last week’s sobfest, but her snark and supersharp one-liners have never been better. While all the top hospitals across the country beg and woo her, the other docs tread water waiting for offers. She had a million offers that would take her clear across the country, and while Meredith and Derek were planning their move together, Cristina was clearly on a solo mission. (Kristin eonline 4/19)
In tonight’s episode, guest star Vanessa Marano plays a torture victim found in the woods. “This is a disturbing one,” she says of the episode. “It has a lot to do with psychological issues and every parent’s worst nightmare. It’s a very gritty episode. And not so much in what you see physically — as far as the marks — but the torture mentality that my character now has because of what has happened to her.” (InsideTV 4/19)
