Season Spoilers

There’s a small a chance that George isn’t dead. A really, really small chance. Tiny. (Ausiello)

Katherine Heigl is adopting a child from Korea, does that re-explain producers’ decision to let her off the hook for five episodes of Grey’s Anatomy? – All indications are that she’s taking off to make that Greg Berlanti movie. The five episodes she’ll be missing may not be consecutive. (Ausiello)

If there are any good Owen and Cristina scenes in Grey’s Anatomy season premiere? – They have a really moving handholding scene. (Ausiello)

Anything about Mer-Der? – If you were among those fans who thought their Post-It note wedding was some kind of bad joke, there’s a scene at George’s funeral that should put a smile on your face. (Ausiello)

Grey’s Anatomy scoop on Owen and Cristina:  They’re headed for a dry spell. In the season premiere, Amy Madigan’s shrink advises Owen against making any further sexy time with Cristina until he can get the voices in his head to shut the hell up. They’re not breaking up. Just taking things slooooow. (Ausiello)

On Mark-Lexie scoop: “They’ve got a lot of challenges coming down the pike,” concedes exec producer Krista Vernoff. “The most consistent challenge is the one that’s built into the fabric of their relationship -  he’s pushing 40, she’s in her early 20s.” (Ausiello)

What will happen to Patrick Dempsey on Grey’s when Ellen Pompeo heads off on maternity leave? – He’ll get some much-needed alone time. As exec producer Krista Vernoff explains, Dempsey has been “patiently” waiting to get a story that wasn’t directly tied to the Der-Mer love story. And this season he’ll get his wish. “Derek hasn’t been a fully explored character separate from Meredith,” Vernoff admits. “The fact that by necessity Ellen is going to need a little less screen time gives us more encouragement to explore Derek as a doctor.” This includes what Vernoff describes as an “extraordinary medical story” involving Derek and a patient in this season’s sixth episode, directed by co-star Chandra Wilson. (Ausiello)

Mark and Lexie may be the cutest twosome on Grey’s Anatomy, and the cuteness continues in Thursday’s big season premiere, when Lexie confides in Mark about her feelings regarding George’s demise. It’s a quiet, gentle scene in the locker room, and we think you guys will dig it! (KristinEonline)

BC is airing promos for new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, and by the looks of things, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are going to have a hot and heavy season.  (KristinEonline)

The newlyweds, Izzie and Alex, will be dealt a major blow at the end of next week’s episode (the best of the season). In fact, the crisis is so big that Izzie disappears for roughly five non-consecutive episodes. Even though Katherine Heigl’s mini-hiatus was coming, Izzie’s exit was no less powerful or emotional; and Heigl knocks it out of the park. (Ausiello)

Unlike Izzie, Meredith isn’t going anywhere — although we’ll begin to see less of her (literally and figuratively) after this week’s episode. Moreover, her diminished screen time will make perfect sense given what happens tonight. (Ausiello)

The aforementioned Oct. 15 episode is a big one for Callie and Arizona, but mostly for Callie. Hector Elizondo is back as her gay-fearing dad and this time he’s brought backup! (Ausiello)

Kim Raver is to play spoiler in Owen-Cristina romance.  Grey’s Anatomy is enlisting Jack Bauer’s ex to throw a monkey wrench into Owen and Cristina’s burgeoning romance. Sources confirm that Grey’s has tapped former 24 heroine Kim Raver to join the cast as a new surgeon and a possible love interest for Kevin McKidd’s doc. Raver’s role is recurring and she will debut in this season’s ninth episode, airing Nov. 12. (Ausiello)

Ever wonder what would happen if Sam and Dean were trapped inside an episode of Grey’s Anatomy? You’ll find out in episode 8! Move over McSteamy, make way for McSexy! (Ausiello)

Sources confirm that Ellen Pompeo is expected to return to the set of Grey’s Anatomy “very soon” after giving birth to baby girl Stella Luna Sept. 15. Thanks to her early return, as well as her willingness to preshoot scenes before the birth (most of which took place in bed after Meredith’s liver surgery in last night’s ep), it is working out that not a single episode will go Meredith Grey-less. (KristinEonline)

Sources confirm that 24 and Lipstick Jungle beauty Kim Raver will appear on the show starting Nov. 12 in a recurring role as a surgeon, and if things work out, she could be upped to series-regular status. (KristinEonline)

McKidd himself hinted at some sort of trouble ahead when he told us, “Someone comes to the hospital that [Owen] was connected to in his past—not his ex-fiancée, but it’s somebody we didn’t expect. I think it could get a little tricky, but exciting and interesting. Hopefully it will bring [Owen and Cristina] closer in the long run.”  (KristinEonline)

Kim Raver checks in to Grey’s Anatomy on Nov. 12 as a “possible love interest” for Kevin McKidd’s Owen Hunt. (KristinEonline)

Someone gets fired in this week’s episode. But what you may not know is that someone gets fired next week, too! (Ausiello)

Nothing stands out on the Mer-Der front, but there’s a memorable Mer-Cristina-Alex scene at the end that will have you crying and laughing, and in that order. (Ausiello)

Izzie Stevens and Katherine Heigl are not leaving Seattle Grace for good. But that doesn’t mean the next few weeks are going to be any less painful for abandoned husband Alex (Justin Chambers) or the rest of the original gang. Not only are the wounds from George O’Malley’s death still fresh, but after exclusively chatting to Sarah Drew, who plays one of the eevvvil Mercy Westers, we get the feeling that the superambitious new kids are going to be fighting tooth and nail to fill the vacuum left in Izzie’s absence. . (KristinEonline)

Sarah Drew did reveal that her character, Dr. April Kepner, is going to cut back on the nasty, needy All About Eve routine. According to Sarah, “Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) apology that happened at the end of the last episode carries through, so there isn’t as much animosity in the rest of the episodes.” That doesn’t mean she’s not still desperate to secure herself a permanent position at Seattle Grace: “April is a very, very good doctor. She really knows what she’s doing, she’s worked really hard, and she wants to do her best and stick around.”  Sarah isn’t allowed to reveal how many episodes she’s signed to do, but she would definitely be interested in staying if the opportunity arose. (KristinEonline)

This week, the emergency room staff kills a lady, and hospital admins are on the warpath. One of the castmembers is definitely getting the ax in punishment, but who? Is one of the new kids getting cut, or could Callie (Sara Ramirez), Lexie (Chyler Leigh),  Cristina (Sandra Oh) or Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) really be in danger of losing their jobs? (KristinEonline)

I’m told by insiders that there should be at least two more crossovers before the season is through, though they have yet to hammer out details. (KristinEonline)

Danielle Panabaker, best known for her role as James Woods’ daughter on CBS’ Shark, is checking into Grey’s Anatomy next month. The actress will play a patient under the care of Cristina and Jackson in the Nov. 19 episode. “It’s a really sweet, heartbreaking story,” says a Grey’s insider. (Ausiello)

Meredith Grey is out of commission (officially because she donated an organ to her daddio, unofficially because Ellen Pompeo was having a kid), so not only is Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd getting the lead-character spotlight to himself this week on Grey’s Anatomy, he’s getting the voice-over! Pompeo does the Anatomy voice-over the overwhelming majority of the time, but now and again the spotlight shifts to another character’s point of view. (KristinEonline)

Football injuries are a very trendy topic these days (we blame Malcolm Gladwell), and Grey’s Anatomy jumps on the bandwagon in episode 11 when the gang treats a quarterback injured during a game. (KristinEonline)

Frankie Faison is set to play Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) dad in the Nov. 19 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. (KristinEonline)

On Izzie and Alex – All we can promise is that Izzie will be back soon—Katherine Heigl is back on the set of Grey’s Anatomy this week, along with Ellen Pompeo—but no promises about a full Alex-Izzie reunion.  (KristinEonline)

Dr. “Beautiful Green Eyes” is still on the market, Jesse Williams himself dished exclusively to us. “Jackson’s about working and just kind of being really effective and not being involved in the business of ‘he said, she said’ and backstories and stuff,” the Grey’s addition told us. “But who are we kidding here? It’s Grey’s Anatomy; I’m sure there is something around the corner. I’m just waiting to hear.” Besides yourself, who do you want to see this hunk with? (KristinEonline)

Private Practice’s Kate Walsh is heading back to Grey’s Anatomy in early January to play a key role in a top-secret crossover event involving Addison, Mark, and that blond chick from Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. In the Grey’s half of the crossover, Mark summons Addison to Seattle Grace to perform a surgery on TBCFTSCC (a.k.a. Leven Rambin). The storyline spills over into Private when, according to exec producer Shonda Rhimes, “complications arise and Mark ends up taking [her] back down to Los Angeles to get more surgery.” (Ausiello)

Inside sources and ABC confirm that producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice are planning another crossover event. Anatomy star Chandra Wilson recently made a visit to the Santa Monica-set spinoff show Private Practice, and now Eric Dane and Kate Walsh are set to appear on both Shonda Rhimes shows on the same night. (KristinEonline)

Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is going to be cheating on Owen Hunt (Kevin Mocked) with the “Hotness Monster” himself, Mercy Western Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). The hookup goes down against the backdrop of a huge pediatric case led by our girl-crush Arizona Robbins (breakout star Jessica Caps haw). (KristinEonline)

Jesse Williams tells that, “There’s competition between Cristina and Jackson, but there’s an attraction that’s both physical and out of respect for her style, her swagger, her adventurousness and her kind of no-apologies approach. I think we have that in common.”  (KristinEonline)

“They [Derek and Meredith] will face some relationship challenges, many of them work-oriented, in the second half of the season,” reveals exec producer Shonda Rhimes. However, this latest obstacle will not result in the newly married-via-Post-It pair breaking up. (Ausiello)

ABC’s promo gurus are very sneaky! While we’re on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm to me exclusively that she’s taking another leave of absence from Grey’s — but this time her reasons are personal, not professional. Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some QT with new daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie will be MIA for another string of episodes (most likely in early 2010.)  (Ausiello)

On Chief- Would the sight of him falling off the wagon do the trick? ‘Cause that’s what happens at the end of this week’s episode. (Ausiello)

Melissa George is joining the Fox drama as an Anna Nicole Smith-type who will go toe-to-toe with Tim Roth. Her character, Clara Martin, is the sassy wife of an older billionaire who has been murdered. After being exonerated in a high-profile murder trial, she assumes control of her husband’s empire. Lightman sees himself in her — naughty, fearless, strategic, and always game for the next adventure. In other words, she’s kinda nuts. George will recur beginning with this season’s 11th episode. (Ausiello)

On Mark and Lexie – “They’ve both really grown up since they were together, and most of the animosity that they had is gone,” says Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of both shows. “Now they’re friends, but they may end up falling back into their old patterns while they’re together.” s you know, the reason Mark pages Addison to Seattle Grace is that he needs her to perform surgery on a woman from his past. But here’s where the plot thickens: One possibly-true rumor making the rounds is that the woman — make that girl — is Mark’s daughter! And she’s pregnant! Rhimes isn’t commenting on the Papa McSteamy buzz, but she does acknowledge that Rambin’s character represents a “new obstacle for [Mark and Lexie]… I’m not sure it’s the kind of obstacle people are expecting, but it’s definitely a new one. I’m not sure they’ll stick together through it.” (Ausiello)

If you are rooting for Cristina-Jackson, you’ll be happy to hear from Jesse Williams that most of his scenes are with Sandra Oh and Chyler Leigh: “It seems to be Cristina and also Lexie [that I spent most time with], just because our characters did spend that whole episode together last week. Right when we started, Jackson and Cristina did the opposite of hit it off; immediately they had confrontation with each other, but I do think there is an underlying mutual respect and wariness there that will carry on.” Sounds like a definite case of unresolved sexual tension… (KristinEonline)

We’ve been told that Leven’s character features heavily in the Nov. 19 episode, titled “Holidaze,” and that during the course of that episode (which spans several weeks of story time), “Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) must cope with the shocking arrival of a woman from his past.” What’s so shocking? Well, rumor has it that Leven plays Mark “McSteamy” Sloan’s long-lost daughter. (KristinEonline)

Kim Raver’s Teddy Altman is definitely a complication for Grey’s Anatomy’s most beloved twosome of the moment: Kevin McKidd’s Owen Hunt and Sandra Oh’s Cristina Yang. As Kevin McKidd correctly pointed out when we spoke earlier this week, “For a TV show to work, the characters can’t be happy all the time.” (KristinEonline)

Well, we’re a little worried about an upcoming episode where it seems producers are taking a page from an old Nip/Tuck episode: The anesthesia doesn’t work on a patient and she wakes up during her surgery and is conscious through terrible agonies of pain. (KristinEonline)

Seattle Grace gets into the webisode business tonight 11/19 with the launch of the Grey’s Anatomy series On Call, running on ABC.com through Jan. 21. Set at Joe’s bar, the six-installment series will focus on the undercurrent of intern drama we’ve seen over the past couple of years. Other featured characters include Steve Bailey as good ol’ Joe the bartender and Nora Zehetner as Dr. Reed Adamson.  (KristinEonline)

According to an interview Justin Chambers recently did with TV Guide.com)Alex Karev have a one-night stand in the first post-hiatus episode of Grey’s Anatomy, which also happens to be the first part of the show’s crossover with Private Practice. But who does Alex get busy with in the Jan. 21 episode? . (Ausiello)

Episode 15 of Grey’s Anatomy this season features a flashback to the romance between Chief Webber and Meredith’s late mother Ellis Grey, and the series is now casting for younger versions of James Pickens Jr. and Kate Burton. The story for this episode is most likely about the roots of Chief’s alcoholism, this casting development doesn’t do much to debunk rumors that the Hotness Monster is Ellis and Richard’s secret love child. (KristinEonline)

The show’s big flashback episode — slated to air in February or March — will reveal the toll Ellis’ demanding career (as well as her affair with Richard) took on a 4-year-old Meredith. There’s also buzz that the episode will show us Bailey’s days as a Seattle Grace intern and introduce us to the Nazi supervisor who schooled her. (Ausiello)

More drama! Despite the emotional smackdown Owen dealt her in the last episode, “From Teddy’s point of view, it’s not over,” Raver tells me. “But what’s great about Teddy is she’s been in love with him when she was in Iraq and he was engaged and she never crossed that line; that’s who she is. Now he’s in love with Cristina, and Teddy has feelings towards Cristina by being her mentor. So that creates a lot of drama and comedy. (Ausiello)

I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news:  Katherine Heigl is back on Jan. 21. The bad news: That episode was shot pre-maternity leave, which means she’ll disappear again for another stretch. (Ausiello)

Teddy and Cristina will have lots of fun stuff coming up. Kim Raver tells me, “There’s an interesting scene where Teddy drunkenly reveals things about Cristina to Owen, and that’s really fun. It was so great that they had her drunk, and Teddy just goes on and on and on. It was interesting.” (KristinEonline)

According to sources, Kim will appear in all but one of the remaining 12 episodes of the current season. An ABC source said they don’t have an exact episode count yet for Katherine’s remaining episodes this season. (KristinEonline)

According to one Grey’s source, Kevin (Owen) and Sandra (Cristina) are still shooting romantic scenes together for upcoming episodes, and getting along famously while doing so. “They were shooting a scene recently,” one eyewitness tells me, “and Cristina kept laughing because Kevin had just had his hair dyed a little more red than usual. She kept saying, ‘It’s so distracting!’” (KristinEonline)

Mexie is M’over. The lovers will break things off this week, but it doesn’t really become official until next week when word of their respective dalliances comes to light. Interestingly, someone’s not as pissed off as I would’ve thought. (Ausiello)

Katherine Heigl returns to the set in late February, so, by my guesstimation, we’ll see Izzie back on air in March or April. (Ausiello)

Grey’s Anatomy has tapped Angel’s J. August Richards and Cupid’s Sarah Paulson to play younger, circa ‘82 versions of Richard and Ellis in the Feb. 18 episode. The flashback-heavy hour, appropriately titled “Time Warp,” will shed light on the beginnings of the affair between the Chief and Mer’s mom. In separate sequences, we’ll see Bailey in her pre-”Nazi” days, and Callie shortly before she was introduced on the show. (Ausiello)

Elsewhere in this week’s episode 1/21 , Meredith and McDreamy are at odds over the Chief’s drinking problem, and Teddy and Cristina have yet to resolve their personal and professional conflict over Owen. (KristinEonline)

Dexter’s Courtney Ford — she played the Trinity Killer’s daughter, Christine, last season — is guest-starring in an upcoming episode as the sister of a lung transplant patient. (Ausiello)

Richard and Ellis aren’t the only Seattle Grace docs getting the prequel treatment in the Feb. 18 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The time-tripping hour will also flash back to the early 2000s when Bailey was an intern and she was being menaced by a supervisor from hell (Heroes‘ Missi Pyle). “We’re going to see Bailey when she still called herself Mandy and had not yet learned to speak up,” explains series creator Shonda Rhimes, adding that the first time she laid eyes on Chandra Wilson “all Mandy’d up,” her heart broke. “I know that girl — hell, I was that girl. Mandy is Bailey’s inner geek, and Chandra plays the Mandy of it all brilliantly.” (Ausiello)

I don’t know if Izzie would consider this good, but the Feb. 18 episode will answer this burning question: Which of Seattle Grace’s other female docs has Alex hooked up with in the past? (Ausiello)

Sloan (Eric Dane) is still punishing Little Grey (Chyler Leigh) for their mutual indiscretions and Mer (Ellen Pompeo) has daddy issues (more, again, still), while Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Teddy (Kim Raver) continue to tussle over Owen (Kevin McKidd). (KristinEonline)

Sara Gilbert will play a patient in an episode slated to air in March or April. And for the record, this is a different patient than the one Gilbert played on Private Practice way back when. (Ausiello)

It looks like the relationship of Little Grey and Sloan has been pronounced dead, or at least it’s in a coma. “We’re done,” Eric Dane told us at Monday’s Valentine’s Day premiere. “At least we’re done for now. Mark is stubborn and I think he was really shocked and hurt by her and he isn’t going to let that go very easily.” As for Mark’s surprise progeny, whose arrival put both parties on edge, “I don’t know if we will see the daughter again. Addison may have talked her into adoption for all I know.” (Ausiello)

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Rhimes just hired Jake McLaughlin, of Starz’ Crash to play the younger brother of Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev. Alex’s estranged bro, Aaron, checks into Seattle Grace as a patient in this season’s 19th episode. The family reunion is rather momentous: This will mark the first time viewers will be meeting a member of Alex’s troubled clan. (Ausiello)

Last I heard, Katherine Heigl’s due back on the Grey’s set at the end of the month, which means we probably won’t see Izzie again until late April. Coincidentally, that’s right around the time a very special patient will be checking into Seattle Grace: Alex’s brother! Sources confirm to me exclusively that Grey’s is currently casting the role of Karev’s estranged sibling. For those keeping score at home, this will be our first time meeting a member of Karev’s troubled clan. Look for bro to dredge up a lot of ugly family history, including that nasty business about daddy beating mommy. (Ausiello)

I’m fairly certain one of Mercy West residents won’t be sticking around next season. A reliable source tells me that one of the four has received his/her walking papers and will exit the show before the end of the season. (Ausiello)

I can confirm that in the March 25 episode Teddy will interact with someone other than Owen and Cristina. And there’s a good chance sex will be involved. In other (possibly related) Grey’s news, Leven Rambin is due back as Mark’s preggers daughter, Sloan, on April 29. (I can’t keep a secret — Teddy and Mark are hooking up!) (Ausiello)

We’ll find out in an upcoming episode that a major character — one of the original Fab Five — grew up in foster. (Ausiello)

Derek and Meredith are going to have a very serious conversation that may or may not involve the word “baby.”
Teddy is going to find herself fighting for her job.
You’re going to see what happens when two Karevs get in the same room together.
Callie and Arizona and Mark are going to do something dirty with pound cake. They were going to do something dirty with mini-muffins, but Broadcast Standards and Practices said no.
Sloan Sloan comes back to have Mark’s grandchild.
A 700-pound man comes to Seattle Grace and our residents have a hard time remembering their sensitivity training.
Mer is gonna go a little badass and protective on Owen when it comes to Cristina. (Ausiello)

My guess is we won’t know for sure what’s happening with Sarah Drew until the middle of June, which is when those decisions have to be made by. But speaking of the ex-Everwood all-star, I’m told Drew will pop up on an episode of CBS’ new drama Miami Medical next month. She’ll play a bride who is rushed to the hospital after her mother-in-law a storm causes her wedding tent to collapse on her. (Ausiello)

I can confirm that the B-word will be broached by one of the show’s heterosexual couples before the end of the season. I won’t, however, confirm that it’s the subject of the blind item. (Ausiello)

Look for a Mercy Wester who may or may not have already been mentioned in this column to get on the wrong side on Meredith’s last nerve. Also, two characters will have sex for the first time, there’s a wonderful scene between Seattle Grace’s current and former chiefs, and I predict a guest Emmy nomination for special guest star Sara Gilbert. (Ausiello)

Katherine Heigl confirms in this week’s exclusive Entertainment Weekly cover story — penned by yours truly! — that she is leaving Grey’s Anatomy. Although she was scheduled to appear in this season’s final five episodes, that is no longer happening. As a result, the Jan. 21 episode was her last as Izzie.  (Ausiello)

Grey’s Anatomy is doing the time warp again this Thursday with an episode that flashes back to Owen and Teddy’s stint as Army medics in Iraq. The intense hour promises to shed light on the duo’s pre-Seattle Grace relationship as well as the origin of Owen’s post-traumatic stress disorder. The guy at the center of all the drama, Kevin McKidd, took a few minutes out of his day to preview his big ep and reveal why Owen and Cristina’s main obstacle will “never go away.” (Ausiello)

Izzie Stevens is no more. “I can confirm she’s leaving Grey’s Anatomy,” a rep for ABC says of Katherine Heigl’s status on the hit show. Katherine’s rep tells us the same. “I can confirm she is no longer on Grey’s.” (KristinEonline)

Get excited about an Alex-centric episode in the coming weeks: His brother coming into the picture is sure to make a splash. When said little bro shows up in need of some pro bono surgery, bits and pieces of Alex’s past begin to surface—like the fact that his family hasn’t heard from him since he arrived at the hospital.  (KristinEonline)

I’m told the Izzie issue will be addressed during May sweeps. For her part, Katherine Heigl thinks her Jan. 21 farewell — while not originally intended to be her last episode — oddly works as a bookend to Izzie’s story. “Even though there’s a part of me that would like to go back and do the quick Izzie farewell,” she says, “I also think that my last scene — where Meredith says to Izzie, ‘Don’t go, we’re your family,’ and Izzie’s response was, ‘No you’re not, you’re just a bunch of people I worked with, and I can find that anywhere’ — was kind of tragic and appropriate all at the same time. When I was playing the scene I was really trying to convey that, for Izzie, that was a lie that she had to tell herself to have the courage to move on.” (Ausiello)

Heartbreak is coming to Grey’s Anatomy. When asked if Meredith and Derek could be the Grey’s power couple who will soon call it quits, Patrick tells us: “There will be some relationships that end and go away, and some new ones that begin. Typical Grey’s, there’s always drama in the relationships, can’t seem to get a healthy relationship! So far Meredith and Derek have been good this year, but something will happen I’m sure before the end of the season.” (KristinEonline)

Stay tuned, ’cause from what I’m hearing, there will be plenty of juicy twists and turns before the season ends to make you forget all about Blondie Mc-What’s-Her-Name. (KristinEonline)

I’m hearing from insiders that one of the longer-term, most-loved couples at Seattle Grace will soon be calling it quits, and the only good (sorta) news is this: It’s gonna leave both of them pretty devastated, so personally, I’m pushing big time for them to get back together! The bad news, though, is it involves a very serious issue that it certainly seems like they cannot get past. (KristinEonline)

There’s also going to be a new fling in the hospital, involving one of the newcomers this season, and someone who’s been around for a good long while. Here’s your first hint as to the breakup: It is not because either of them have met someone new. And the first clue to the hookup: It stinks!  (KristinEonline)

Scoop on Owen/Cristina: Teddy may be the least of their problems. Word is someone else is going to complicate their already-troubled romance, and the identity of that person is…revealed in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on sale now! (Ausiello)

I can reveal that Demi’s character Hayley is so not in a good place—mentally or physically. Demi’s character is schizophrenic, and she can hear everything, but she’s in good hands: Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Suffice to say, it’s gonna be a very dramatic episode. Mark your calendars. May 13. (KristinEonline)

McSteamy is thisclose to hooking up with yet another Seattle Grace lady. Your hint? It’s not Teddy (Kim Raver). Guesses? It seems McSteamy is getting back to his McSlutty ways, and you Lexie-Mark fans aren’t gonna like it one bit—and neither is she, I’m sure! (KristinEonline)

Mandy Moore is slated to guest star on the two-hour Grey’s finale May 20. Details surrounding the super secretive gig are being kept under wraps, but a show rep just confirmed the fantabulous news, telling us Mandy will be playing Dr. Bailey’s patient, Mary. (KristinEonline)

The boss lady tells me she has no plans to tie up the loose ends of the Alex-Izzie love story. “It’s going to linger,” she says. “And I actually feel good about it lingering because [it means] Alex is left with unfinished business. And that’s going to be very interesting for his character.” (Ausiello)
“The events of the finale itself change the game,” says Shonda Rhimes. “Whether anyone lives or anyone dies is not really necessarily the point of it.” (Ausiello)

Callie and Arizona’s baby issue – It sounds like Shonda Rhimes wants them to, which probably bodes well. “They’re breaking my heart right now with their I want to have a baby, I don’t want to have a baby war, because I’ve actually known people who go through this and it’s never pretty,” she says. “But I like them together and I want to see them together.” (Ausiello)

“In the first hour of the two-hour season six finale, ‘Sanctuary,’ Seattle Grace Hospital is hit with a crisis like no other in its history on Grey’s Anatomy. In the second hour of the finale, ‘Death and All His Friends,’ Cristina and Meredith’s surgical skills are put to the ultimate test.” (Ausiello)

The breakup is, sadly, the one you’re all assuming. The hookup is Sloane and Reed, and Lexie is not going to hide her disapproval from Reed, taking little jabs at her in front of patients. Clearly, Lexie is not over Steamy. Grey’s returns this Thursday so you can start seeing it all unfold. (KristinEonline)

No deaths among the cast that I know of, but there is a death very soon that will affect Cristina and bring back some painful memories. It’s a fantastic episode for Sandra Oh actually. Her character definitely has some strong material in the coming weeks that could win her that overdue Emmy. (KristinEonline)

The marriage-related word that is dropped is actually an H-bomb: “Husband.” And that’s all I can say! (KristinEonline)

Grey’s Anatomy are headed in the next few weeks, and here’s what I can tell you:
- One of the six lovely ladies will hear a completely unexpected love profession that includes the suggestion of, yes, marriage.
- Another woman will be propositioned for a threesome.
- Another couple will break up.
- Another duo will move apart when a secret is outed.
- And yet another pair will get thisclose to breaking up because of a misunderstanding, but come out the other side. (KristinEonline)

Look for Ben and Bailey to sneak in a little coitus before next week’s apocalyptic crisis. Speaking of which, DEFCON 1 spoiler alert: The top secret catastrophe at the center of next week’s Grey’s finale involves a crazed gunman on the loose in Seattle Grace! (Ausiello)

Big ups to Meredith on this week’s Grey’s Anatomy. Relationships aren’t her strong suit, but when she sees bestie Cristina going through a rough patch with Owen, those girl code instincts set it. Of course, hardheaded Cristina will have none of it, and Grey’s  quickly becomes all best friend vs. boyfriend. But as you see in the clip above, maybe she just needs to witness the Teddy/Owen chemistry to believe her gal-pal…or maybe not. (KristinEonline)

Joe Jonas’ other half says that scoring the guest spot is a dream come true. “I’m playing a schizophrenic in this episode, or a possible schizophrenic, and I hear every sound in my body from my heart beating to my eyes moving, to my muscles flexing, to my blood rushing,” Demi spills. “I hear everything going on in my body and I couldn’t take it and I try to claw my eyes out.” (KristinEonline)

On Alex still using a breathing tube: We’re better than sure; we’re positive. Rhimes confirms that Alex is on the road to recovery. “He lived,” she assures me. “ (Ausiello)

A gunman terrorizes Seattle Grace in the dramatic — and wrenching — season finale. Cristina and Owen slipped in a quick mid-surgery breakup when he couldn’t answer the question, ”Do you love her or do you love me?” Arizona and Callie bickered in the children’s ward. Cristina politely gave the gunman (whose weapon was concealed at the moment, obviously) directions to Derek’s office. (Ausiello)

New: Danny Feld/ABCNews that Grey’s Anatomy has promoted Jesse Williams (Jackson) and Sarah Drew (April) to full-time series regulars next season has elicited mixed reactions from viewers. Yay for Jackson—but not so much for his Mercy West cohort, who hasn’t exactly endeared herself to viewers. The fact that she nearly got Derek killed in last month’s harrowing hostage-themed finale certainly didn’t help. Among April’s biggest critics: Drew herself! (Ausiello)

New: ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ will launch its seventh season on Thursday, September 23, a source tells Fancast, effectively confirming that which was disseminated over the weekend via Twitter.
The plan is for Season 7 to opt for traditional, hour-long premiere.
Last season’s opener, after all, had much territory to cover, what with George tragically dying and Izzie almost checkout out as well. (Fancast Blogs)

NEXT SEASON SPOILERS:

Season 2 kicks off (on September 23)

Grey’s Anatomy premiere: A major character will be sent directly to jail by the end of the episode. (Ausiello)

Exec producer Shonda Rhimes reveals a nuptials taking place on the Sept. 23 season premiere. Although Rhimes prefers to keep the identities of the Grey’s bride and groom hush-hush. (Ausiello)

Derek gets arrested for being a speed addict. “He’s doing a lot of speeding—in a car, not with drugs,” explains Grey’s  EP Shonda Rhimes. “He’s on an exuberant high, that adrenaline rush that one gets after facing death and surviving. It’s something we hadn’t explored before—the idea that when something bad happens you go to a place of ‘Now I can do anything.’ Meredith, however, sees his behavior as dangerous.” That’s one of two ticking time bombs hanging over the world’s first married-via-Post-it-note couple this season. And the other? Two months have passed since Derek’s near-death experience, and Mer has yet to tell him about the pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage. (Ausiello)

Callie and Arizona: The baby drama is over, but that doesn’t mean the stork will pay them a visit this fall. Explains Rhimes: “Will there be a baby right away? No. Will Callie’s turnaround [about having children] stick? Yes.” (Ausiello)

Grey’s Anatomy‘s exec producer Shonda Rhimes tells me that Seattle Grace’s newest Doc McHottie will be exposing more than just his hypnotic baby blues this season. “We felt that having a shirtless Jackson Avery would be a benefit to society,” Rhimes coos, “so we’re going to see a little bit of that early on in the season.” (Ausiello)

Rejoice in the hotness that is Jesse becoming a full-timer at Seattle Grace! (And the guy Sarah calls “McPretty.”) As for his character’s romantic life, he tells us that while he isn’t exactly sure what lies ahead for him, he is “sure something will come up soon out of a shared experience we’ve all had.” The shared experience he speaks of is, of course, the shooting, the crying and all the whatnot and what have you from last season’s finale. “People are more willing to express their feelings and they feel like that clock is ticking and time is precious, and it’s time to be honest with each other,” he says.  (KristinEonline)

Teddy-Owen-Christina triangle on Grey’s Anatomy: Kim Raver report that, yes, “for now, the triangle with Owen and Christina is done.” Hollller! Plus, she tells us that we’ll get to see Teddy try her hand at romance—with someone new, who is presumably named neither Kevin nor McKidd. “We have some people coming in, very talented, very good looking,” she says with a sly smile. “So, Teddy gets to dive into that world, which will be a lot of fun to watch.” (KristinEonline)

Jessica Capshaw (Arizona), and here’s what she tells us lies ahead for the docs of Seattle Grace—and when (or if!) those 14 Calizona babies might start poppin’ out… “I was wondering how we were gonna get back to it after that big season finale, but we just jump right back in,” an enthusiastic Jessica exclaims. “Arizona [really] got away scott-free in that she and Callie weren’t shot,” laughs Jessica, “but clearly there was still that life or death moment that made Arizona have her big epiphany and, ‘I can’t live without you. And I’ll have 14 kids’—which I don’t believe she will.” (KristinEonline)

When the show returns on September 23, viewers will see that Derek’s near-death thoroughly rattled others as well.
“Some of the people who went through some of the worst traumas handle it differently,” newly promoted series regular Jesse Williams (aka Dr. Jackson Avery) tells Fancast. “But Cristina (Sandra Oh) takes it especially hard, because she had a gun up against her head as she had to save the life of her very, very, very best friend’s husband – and the chief of their whole department.” (Fancast Blogs)

Bailey is another survivor we have to wonder about, given that she at one juncture had to hide mere inches away from the shooter, and then spent much of the season-ender trying – unsuccessfully – to keep Mercy Wester Charles from succumbing to his own gunshot wound.
“We saw what Bailey went through, but shes a rock and she only lets us in so much,” says Williams. Reflecting for a moment on Chandra Wilson’s performance in those scenes, he adds, “She’s such a tremendous actress.” (Fancast Blogs)

To help any and all who were impacted by the hospital crisis, a new face is on the scene in the form of a grief counselor played by James Tupper (’Men In Trees’). “He really is our judge and jury,” says Williams. “He can clear us for surgery, or keep us languishing in purgatory.”
And as for the fact that this new healer just so happens to look like James Tupper and not, say, some 62-year-old bald man, well…. “He will make his mark, to say the least,” Williams teases. “He’s definitely not just a grief counselor.” (Fancast Blogs)

Teddy is gonna be macking on James Tupper’s trauma counselor, Kim Raver told me, and Sarah Drew (aka April) doubts they would pair the two “new kids.” When it comes to Lexie (yes, Chyler Leigh  is brunette again), I suggested to Jesse that Little Grey’s dance card is a bit full with Mark and Alex. But he made a point of noting, “Jackson’s had some moments with her. He sometimes shows that he cares about her, so there’s chemistry there.” (Fancast Blogs)

cougar

The show’s big flashback episode — slated to air in February or March — will reveal the toll Ellis’ demanding career (as well as her affair with Richard) took on a 4-year-old Meredith. There’s also buzz that the episode will show us Bailey’s days as a Seattle Grace intern and introduce us to the Nazi supervisor who schooled her. (Ausiello)
