Meredith is a first year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, the toughest surgical residency program west of Harvard. She and fellow first-year interns Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O’Malley and Alex Karev were students yesterday. New: Bailey teams with Seattle Grace’s new pediatric surgeon, Dr. Arizona Robbins, to save the life of a young patient near and dear to her heart, as the admittance of a death row inmate at the hospital stirs anger in Derek and further erodes Meredith and Cristina’s friendship. Meanwhile, Callie and Sloan work as a team to fight their respective attractions to Sadie and Lexie, and Izzie tells Alex that she’s seeing Denny. (Tv.com)

New: Derek’s mother, Carolyn, makes a surprise visit to Seattle and meets Meredith for the first time, as Mark tries to conceal his relationship with Lexie from her as well; meanwhile, death row inmate William wishes to donate his organs to Bailey and Arizona’s patient, as Owen and Cristina try to go on their first date. New: Bailey grows desperate as a patient’s condition becomes more and more dire. Everyone in the hospital is stepping up to try to find the boy a new organ donor, including Meredith, who considers a death row patient’s wish to die before execution. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be around for at least 5 episodes as Izzies suitor… “”Izzie’s got a love story, and it’s a big one,” she told TV Guide back in August, “one that I’ve been kicking around in my head for a bit, one that required me to take a huge leap of faith in myself, one that is so secret that I have not told anyone. I’m happy to report that negotiations between Grey’s and Alias alum Melissa George have produced a signed contract. It remains unclear when exactly George’s bisexual intern will first show up at Seattle Grace, but if I know Shonda Rhimes, it’ll be the precise moment Erica and Callie find true happiness. Alex and Izzie. I’m told it’s definitely happening this season and will be a major storyline—most likely, I’m guessing, that “huge love story” Shonda Rhimes promised for Heigl.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that ex-Alias vixen Melissa George is in final negotiations to join the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as an intern with, um, an open mind toward sexuality. To wit, I’m told she’s being groomed as a potential love interest for one of Grey’s other two burgeoning bis, Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith). 
A Grey’s insider tells me George was initially going to be introduced by way of a gurney, but rumor has it Shonda Rhimes was so enamored with the ex-In Treatment star that she tweaked the role to give it more long-term potential. Of course, it’s also possible the patient thing was just a decoy to throw off spoiler hunters like myself — in which case, I’m on to you, Rhimes!
George’s probable hiring caps a busy couple of weeks for Grey’s casting honchos. In addition to The L Word’s Janina Gavankar and up-and-comer Brandon Scott checking in as new interns, Battlestar Galactica’s inimitable Mary McDonnell has sealed a deal to play a doctor for a multi-episode arc.  (AusielloFiles)
