Season Spoilers

In the opening minutes of the sixth-season, it was revealed that Mike picked soul mate Susan over Katherine. Surprised? I thought for sure Housewives boss Marc Cherry would drag out the Susan-Mike romance for another season at least. Heck, he essentially threatened to do just that last April at Paley Fest ‘09, telling fans he would likely string us along for “a few more years” before marrying them off. So what happened to change his mind?

Cherry had a fan-driven epiphany over the show’s hiatus. “I originally was going to have Mike marry Katherine,” he admits, “but as I went out into the world on vacation and just started talking to people they were so determined that Mike and Susan should get together; they were so insistent on it. So I started to think, ‘What if I went that way.’ And it occurred to me that it might be a more effective way to go as opposed to frustrating the fans for another year by keeping Mike and Susan apart. The fans demanded it in a voice so loud I kind of was scared to go against them.” There were creative advantages as well. Cherry says having Mike and Susan happily married “plays better for this season’s mystery.” It also gives Dana Delany a meaty woman scorned story, the beginnings of which we saw tonight. “Katherine has a breakdown,” says Cherry. “And it’s going to be one of the funniest breakdowns you’ve ever seen.” But what about Cherry’s assertion at Paley Fest that happily married couples “are the death” of soap operas? “The truth is, Tom and Lynette have been married for five seasons going on six and I’ve managed to keep that relationship [interesting],” he maintains. “There’s stuff to mine there once we accept that they’re together as a couple. “I don’t anticipate ever breaking [Mike and Susan] up again,” he continues. “So now it’s up to me to find out what’s interesting about that marriage. I’ve done it with other marriages on the show, I now just have to do it with Mike and Susan.”  (Ausiello)

Scoop on Bree and Carl: Marc Cherry tells me that through the affair Bree will “discover her sexuality in a major way. And it’s going to change that character a little bit. Marcia’s been having a lot of fun playing a newly sexual Bree.”
(Ausiello)

On chances that Desperate Housewives will release Neal McDonough’s Dave from the loony bin:  I asked Marc Cherry that question and got this curious response -  “Not this season.”   (Ausiello)

Who is getting married on Desperate Housewives?: This is one secret the cast and crew are keeping close to their hearts. We asked Dana Delany (Katherine Mayfair) when we saw her at Emmy rehearsals who’s going to be walking down the aisle. “I can’t tell you that!” she said. “All will be revealed next week. I’m so happy because I have a wonderful storyline this year. I’m just having a ball. I’m kinda going over the edge, only as Katherine can. We are going to see drama with the partnership between Bree, Katherine and Orson. I love Katherine’s relationship with Bree because there’s always this ‘frienemy’ thing going on.” Another thing to look forward to? “The fun thing for me this year has been working with Drea de Matteo,” said Delaney. “She’s the new housewife and she’s the only person that Katherine has left, the only one who’ll put up with her.” (KristinEonline)

Catastrophe rocks Wisteria Lane. That noise you hear is the sound of property values plummeting on Wisteria Lane. This November on Desperate Housewives, the most dangerous street in America will be the site of yet another calamity, this time a neighborhood plane crash. “It’s going to be my cliffhanger for the first half of the season,” series creator Marc Cherry says of the tragedy, which, he adds, will “affect everyone’s lives.” Since the story is still in the planning stages, many of the biggest details — including who’ll be on board the small aircraft and who’ll be in its. The catastrophe will not claim the life of a housewife. “I’d love to kill somebody ’cause that’s just what I do,” he laughs. “But the truth is, right now I don’t have anyone major dying.” (Ausiello)

Whitney Houston not really joining Desperate Housewives. Reps for the ABC drama scoff at rumors that Whitney Houston is in talks to join the cast.  (KristinEonline)

Who’s Dying on Desperate Housewives?- It’s a showrunner’s prerogative to change his mind. So, although he insisted he wasn’t killing off any characters in this November’s big Wisteria Lane plane crash, Desperate Housewives boss man Marc Cherry has decided, on second thought, to kill several, including one that my mole says is a fan favorite.  (Ausiello)

There are some changes a comin’ to Desperate Housewives this Fall — apparently a plane crash will send at least one of the residents of Wisteria Lane to the grave. Marc Cherry is reportedly plotting to kill off several cast members, including a “fan favorite” during November sweeps. I’m thinking we might need to prepare to say farewell to Mrs. McCluskey, Andrew, or even Katherine, who now seems a bit superfluous since Drea de Matteo moved in. (KristinEonline)

Desperate Housewives is going back to the future, but this time it’s just temporary. And imaginary. An early January episode — the first following the Dec. 6 plane crash cliffhanger — will find the housewives pondering numerous “What If” scenarios. Two Wisterians featured prominently in the alternate reality sequences will be Gaby and Carlos’ youngest daughter, Celia, and Mike and Susan’s son, MJ. I know this because DH is currently casting thirty something versions of both characters. (Ausiello)

A Housewives insider insists there’s no truth to a report in The National Enquirer claiming the Emmy winner is being written off the show for budgetary reasons. Per my source, the terms of de Matteo’s Housewives contract — which calls for her to appear in 20 of this season’s 23 episodes — remain unchanged. (Ausiello)

We already reported that— Orson (Mr. Marcia Cross) and Bree (Marcia) will be trapped inside their house.   Kyle MacLachlan confirmed that Orson will survive the much-buzzed-about plane crash that leaves five characters dead. (KristinEonline)

We know it’s not Kyle MacLachlan who’s getting killed off, but check out the four additional sneak peeks to see Bree serve Orson with divorce papers (better than death, right?) and Katherine mess with Susan’s head, plus Gabrielle-Lynette cat fight with a very special Christmas theme. (KristinEonline)

Susan Meyer will be doing a seductive striptease in an upcoming episode of Desperate Housewives. And believe it or not, Teri’s being taught the dance by none other than the latest hot brunette to come to Lost: Sheila Kelley, also known as Mrs. Richard Schiff, also known as the creator of the striptease workout S-Factor. Though Kelley wouldn’t say who will be on the receiving end of Susan Meyer’s scandalous erotic display—It has to be Mike Delfino, right?–she does reveal that Teri is a pro on the pole. (KristinEonline)

Tom Scavo is finally getting professional help for that nasty mid-life crisis of his. Desperate Housewives has inked a deal with Frasier’s Jane Leeves to play Tom’s psychotherapist in at least two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively. (Ausiello)

One of the causalities of the plane crash is a husband who finds himself paralyzed and becomes quite the little household tyrant from his wheelchair.  (KristinEonline)

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Julie Benz — whose character, Rita, succumbed to the most horrific bubble bath in television history in last month’s Dexter finale — has been cast in the recurring role of Debbie, a stripper with a heart of gold and a Masters degree in education. When Susan offers her the chance to transition into a more legitimate career, Deb jumps at it.Benz is booked for at least three episodes, the first of which is scheduled to air in February. (Ausiello)

ABC just dropped new photos from the Jan. 21 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and not only will Katherine Heigl be gracing us with our presence, but it looks like separated newlyweds Izzie and Alex (Justin Chambers) are finally going to have a heart-to-heart! “After learning of Richard’s drinking problem, Derek confronts him for the sake of his friend and the hospital, Izzie returns, hoping to reconcile with Alex, and tensions run high between Teddy, Cristina and Owen in the aftermath of Cristina’s startling confession.”  (KristinEonline)

This is the big news, “I have a very exciting storyline coming up that I’m really excited about,” reveals upcoming Castle guest star Dana Delany, who adds that the top-secret plot (thankfully) does not involve a continuation of crazy Katherine. “It’s a new Katherine.” (Ausiello)

Page’s first episode is slated to air in late February. Joining Desperate Housewives for a multi-episode arc as Jeremy, a well-trained cook who idolizes Bree (Marcia Cross) and her old-fashioned values. (Ausiello)

There’s a big story coming up for Gaby that will find the ex-catwalker returning to her runway roots in New York. (Ausiello)

A Housewives insider confirms that Torchwood’s John Barrowman is joining the ABC soap later this season for a minimum of five episodes. The actor will play the Big Bad at the center of the Angie (Drea de Matteo) mystery.Last summer, Cherry — a big Torchwood fan — met with Barrowman to discuss the possibility of him visiting Wisteria Lane at some point. It was just a matter of finding the right role. Barrowman’s arc will kick off in early April and span the final five episodes of the season. (Ausiello)

Sources tell me exclusively that supermodels and reality-TV staples Heidi Klum and Paulina Porizkova have just signed deals today to guest star on the hit ABC series. A rep for ABC confirms this new to us. According to sources, they’ll be playing themselves in an episode tentatively slated to air in March. (KristinEonline)

In the episode Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker), who is a former model, and Angie (Drea de Mateo) run into the Project Runway host and former America’s Next Top Model judge in New York City. The storyline will take place in NYC but the episode will be shot here in Los Angeles. (KristinEonline)

Desperate Housewives is casting a new vixen to replace Nicolette Sheridan. (Ausiello)

Someone almost killed Julie. Marc Cherry, who confirms that the serial strangler will be unmasked during May sweeps. (Ausiello)

Dana Delany’s ideal scenario has her headlining. Evidence next season and making occasional guest appearances on Housewives. “[Series creator] Marc Cherry [promised] he would not kill me off and told me I was always welcome to come back to the Lane,” she says. “I would love for Katherine to pop into town and say hi to the gang every once in awhile.” (Ausiello)

Delany remains focused on finishing out this season of Housewives. Does she think Katherine’s big gay awakening will stick? “This might actually be her thing,” she says. “It may make her happier than she has ever been. She does not have the best track record with men to begin with.” (Ausiello)

Drea de Matteo is leaving Desperate Housewives in May. The reality is, de Matteo’s stint on Housewives was never intended to go beyond this season, according to Cherry. “Part of the deal when we hired Drea was she was only interested in doing one season,” he explains. “She has a baby and is eager to get back to her life in New York.” (Ausiello)

Rescue Me and Numb3rs alum Diane Farr has been tapped to guest star in a May sweeps episode that will flash back to Wisteria Lane circa ‘94 and feature the return of Brenda Strong as Mary Alice. Farr will play a woman “whose life has taken a bad turn since her husband left her 16 years earlier,” says an insider. “She has become a hard-drinking, abusive woman.”  (Ausiello)

Rumor has it Marc Cherry was toying with the idea of blowing up a house in the finale, but I hear he’s favoring a Plan B. (Ausiello)

Wait until you see what poor Lynette has to endure in the season finale. (Ausiello)

Desperate Housewives is doing its best to divert attention back on screen by packing its season finale with a birth, a death, some destruction, and a humdinger of a secret. Five must-see twists:
1. “Mike and Susan are going to have some financial issues,” reveals Daily. “They’re experiencing the economic woes that much of America is experiencing, and it’s going to create issues in their marriage and it will lead them to make a life-changing decision in the finale.”
2. Lynette’s cursed pregnancy comes to a fittingly dark conclusion when she gives birth under “pretty scary circumstances,” says Daily. “I don’t want to give too much away, but it ties into the mystery of who the Fairview Strangler is. She’s going to be getting closer and closer to the identity of the person who’s been terrorizing the women of Fairview, and then give birth, like I said, under less than ideal circumstances.”
3. Bree discovers “son” Jeremy’s true intentions. “But unfortunately for her,” says Daily, “he knows some shocking Van De Kamp secrets that will come back to haunt her. He has a trump card he’s going to use against her.”
4. Gaby will get dragged into the Angie mystery. “Gaby will end up being Angie’s confidante,” previews Daily. “And she’ll help her out as she tries to get away from her past.” In possibly related news, Daily promises that “someone the audience has gotten to know this season” will perish in the finale.
5. Plans to blow up a home on Wisteria Lane were scuttled, but Daily confirms that the finale will still feature “a big explosion.” (Ausiello)

I think we may catch a glimpse of a new vixen causing trouble in the season finale. And to echo something series creator Marc Cherry recently hinted at, I wouldn’t use the word “vixen” to describe the character; I hear the troublemaker is a he. (Ausiello)

Real estate insiders are anticipating a significant spike in inventory on Wisteria Lane in the coming weeks. It’s my understanding that at least two homes will be going on the market in the finale. (Ausiello)

“I Guess This is Goodbye” – As the season’s mysteries are resolved, new ones emerge on the explosive Season Finale of ABC’s Desperate Housewives. Gaby risks her safety to help Angie; Lynette’s fate and that of her unborn child lie in the hands of Eddie; Susan comes to grips with her financial woes; Bree considers confessing a secret she’s harbored for years; and Angie must submit to Patrick’s demands in order to protect her son. (Ausiello)

New: Desperate Housewives is adding a new villain to Wisteria Lane. The twist? It’s an old villain! Sources confirm to me exclusively that Mark Moses is slated to reprise his role as Mary Alice’s creepy widower, Paul, on a full-time basis next season. (Ausiello)

New: Vanessa Williams Joins ‘Desperate Housewives’
When Vanessa Williams makes camp on Wisteria Lane this fall, she can count on seeing at least one familiar – if not friendly – face. It turns out that the ‘Ugly Betty’ alumna’s ‘Desperate Housewives‘ character – named Renee Filmore-Jones – is an old college acquaintance of Lynette’s, TV Guide Magazine reports.
Renee has a yet-to-be-cast husband, and it sounds like she has forever been his dutiful wife – until now, that is. (Fancast Blogs)

New: Wisteria Lane is getting a transfusion of new blood this fall in the form of four new characters (not including the incoming diva played by Vanessa Williams).
1.A sweet lady in the 60-80 year-old age range. Maxine is Mike and Susan’s new neighbor in their apartment building, and she has an unusual job that brings in some additional income.
2.This quirky, sweet thirtysomething woman was Paul Young’s prison pen pal-cum-wife. She’s damaged emotionally but also capable of humor.
3.Tom and Lynette’s 12-year-old daughter is being recast. Not sure why.
4. Hot, sexy, 30-year-old contractor. He’s a charming playboy who turns up on Wisteria Lane. Think Mike Delfino 15 years ago. (Ausiello)

NEXT SEASON SPOILERS:

Looking for a fresh start after her split from Orson, Desperate Housewives‘ Bree (Marcia Cross) hires a hunky handyman—played by 90210‘s Brian Austin Green—to spruce up her, ahem, house.
“Bree has an instant physical attraction to him,” explains executive producer Bob Daly of Green’s character, who is introduced in the ABC soap’s seventh-season premiere on Sept. 26. “But then over time it turns into something more.” Unfortunately for Bree, her boy toy has also caught the eye of Wisteria Lane’s newest cougar, Renee (Ugly Betty‘s Vanessa Williams). “Suddenly by episode 4 they’re both going after him,” says Daly. (Ausiello)

More than one cougar will be preying on Brian Austin Green’s handyman character. I’m told both Bree (Marcia Cross) and Renee (Vanessa Williams) will sink their claws into the artist formerly known as David Silver this fall. (Ausiello)

Learn whose baby was switched Within the first 10 minutes of the season premiere. (Ausiello)

Rebecca Creskoff—who currently stars as Jane Adams’ rival man merchant on HBO’s Hung—has been tapped to guest star in an October episode of Desperate Housewives, sources confirm to me exclusively. Details of her Housewives role are being kept under wraps, but it’s my understanding that Creskoff will be playing a new adversary of Susan’s (Teri Hatcher). (Ausiello)

Cougar.

6.18 – My Two Young Men 3/21
Angie Bolen’s ex-boyfriend, Patrick Logan (guest star John Barrowman), the man she has been running from all these years, makes his way to Wisteria Lane. In the meantime, Susan and Gabrielle go to extreme and shameless lengths to top each other’s kids, whereas Bree invites Sam (guest star Sam Page) over for a family dinner. A party is thrown for Mrs. McCluskey, and Lynette thinks there is more to Preston’s fiancée (guest star Helena Mattsson as Irina) than she’s letting on. Meanwhile, Katherine comes out of the closet.
