Season Spoilers

Katee Sackhoff’s role: “I play Dana Walsh, the head data analyst for CTU, and she’s engaged to Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.). She’s got a shady little past, and we’ll see how that affects her.” The show has 13 episodes finished and wraps in January, and Katee tells us: “It’s the same usual 24. They’re used to having new characters coming in. There’s so many new cast members this year that if it is the last year, they’ll go out with a bang.” (KristinEonline)

Gregory Itzin is returning to 24 as lunatic ex-prez Charles Logan for a multi-episode arc. Logan will resurface towards the end of Day 8 when Cherry Jones’ President Taylor reluctantly enlists her disgraced predecessor to assist with an escalating diplomatic crisis. 24 returns with its customary two-night, four-hour premiere on Jan. 17 and 18. (Ausiello)

Jack Bauer thinks he’s gotten out; because they always suck him back in! Plus, Freddie Prinze Jr. has joined the cast of 24, which is just, well, amusing.  (KristinEonline)

Renee Walker has essentially morphed into a female Dexter, so girlfriend’s definitely working through some demons. (Ausiello)

David Anders’ character on 24 is in league with a bunch of nefarious Russians with access to fissile materials. (They want to make the world go boom.) Anders doesn’t appear live in the Jan. 17-18 eps of 24, but we will see a glimpse of his character in a dossier. Other familiar faces popping up in minor roles in the 24 four-hour premiere include Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley as Kim’s baby daddy and The Wire’s Domenick Lombardozzi as a NYC patrolman who doesn’t much like Jack Bauer. Oh, and by the time the first four hours of day eight are done, you’ll find yourself taking Freddie Prinze Jr. seriously.  (KristinEonline)

There are certain things you come to rely on with 24, so it’s not gonna be a good day for Jack Bauer. It’s gonna be a tough day for him, and we used New York as a backdrop and we shot a little bit there. We’ve also shot predominantly in Los Angeles, but there’s a kind of an energy in New York that suits our show. So we’re very excited to have that as part of it. And the show is also grounded this year in a very realistic political potential—the disruption of a potential Middle East peace conference. (KristinEonline)

It’s a showdown 24 fans would no doubt pay big bucks to see: Jack’s two loves, Audrey and Renee, battling to the death. Winner takes Jack. But according to Annie Wersching, such a duel would quickly turn into a one-sided massacre. “Renee could definitely take Audrey,” she says, “no question.”  (Ausiello)

Season eight of 24 has yet to premiere, but people are already wondering if there might be a ninth season. Star Kiefer Sutherland seems game, but nothing’s for certain yet. He told reporters, “There’s never been any one season where it was guaranteed that Fox would pick it up…Right now our focus is on finishing season eight.” Kiefer says the renewal of 24 always been decided on a year-by-year basis, but also that, “This has been one of the best experiences of my life.” (KristinEonline)

Jack finds himself on the receiving end of yet another brutal interrogation. But this one may be worth sitting through, if only to witness the shocking (literally) conclusion. (Ausiello)

In the next three or four hours, something truly horrible will happen at CTU. And I swear that’s not a subtle dig at the horrifyingly awful Dana Walsh subplot. (Ausiello)

The aforementioned horrifyingly awful Dana Walsh subplot is about to become slightly more bearable thanks to the fantastic Stephen Root. The alum of True Blood, Pushing Daisies, etc, joins the cast next week, as the parole officer of Dana’s dead ex who starts looking into his disappearance. (Ausiello)

Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that 20th Century Fox has approached NBC about picking up the series should Fox opt to cancel it — and the Peacock is considering it. “There’s definitely some interest,” says an insider close to the talks.  (Ausiello)

It’s official: 24’s time is up. Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) confirmed via Twitter that “we [just] got the word officially… this is 24’s last season.” Former exec producer/director Jon Cassar also tweeted that the crew “has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will be no season 9. It’s been a great run.” (Ausiello)

24 is bringing in a TV veteran to help save Jack’s latest (and now it looks like last) bad day: Eriq La Salle has signed on to appear in this season’s final two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively. The former ER doc will play the charming and regal UN Secretary General. (Ausiello)

Fans hoping for a Jack/Audrey reunion are out of luck. Although exec producer Howard Gordon admits he’s “personally curious” about what happened to Audrey, he says the fate of Kim Raver’s bedridden character will remain one of the show’s “unresolved” mysteries. (Ausiello)

The May 24 series finale will find Jack squaring off against his most formidable adversary yet: Chloe! “Chloe and Jack are in a real face-off,” reveals executive producer Howard Gordon. “And Chloe has to decide between her duty [as head of CTU] and her friendship and allegiance to Jack. Their relationship gets put to the test in a way it’s never been tested before. It’s a collision course that culminates in the finale. It’s about as hairy a confrontation as you can possibly imagine, and it’s a nearly lethal one.” (Ausiello)

New: 24 fans who were counting the minutes until Katee Sackhoff’s CTU analyst/mole, Dana Walsh, was wiped off the face of the earth can start celebrating: The double-crossing evildoer found herself on the wrong end of Jack Bauer’s pistol in last night’s pulse-pounding episode. Her death brings to end one of the show’s most ridiculed story arcs since Kim Bauer’s took a detour to cougar town in season 2. (Ausiello)

New: We have it on good authority that Jack Bauer will actually get a happy ending…whatever that means in the land of 24. (KristinEonline)

New: When we asked Kiefer Sutherland if the finale will spill over into the film, he squashed the theory right then and there. “It’s less of a cliff-hanger as much as it is a personal ending between a few of the characters, which is very intimate for us, when we’re not blowing up the planet. It was very wonderful for us to make and I hope the audience likes it as well. I’m very happy with it.”
Echoes Howard: “It’s exciting, it’s emotional and it just feels right. The ending fits somewhere between Jack dying and a happily ever after.”
Kiefer also says that moving into the end, Jack experiences “moments” of happiness, but “his are unfortunately fleeting. It’s certainly something we’re pursuing.” Promises Mary Lynn, “Chloe going to be a changed person by the end of this, too. She’s going to confront Jack in a pretty major way by the end.” (KristinEonline)
